The Season 2 finale of Loki left fans with a lot of questions, including whether there will be a Loki Season 3. In a recent interview, Head Writer Eric Martin suggested that Season 2 may have closed the book on Loki and the TVA, but he didn’t rule out the possibility of a third season.
Loki Season 3
We approached this as like two halves of a book. Season one, first half. Season two, we close the book on Loki and the TVA. Where it goes beyond that, I don't know. I just wanted to tell a full and complete story across those two seasons.
And now it seems that Loki could very well end after two seasons, according to Eric Martin, the show’s head writer. The Trickster God’s relationship with the TVA has been the driving force of the plot, and it sounds like the show as we know it will come to a definitive conclusion.
Eric Martin has said that Season 2 will “close the book” on Loki and the TVA, which means that Loki could potentially move on to another Marvel TV show or movie. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be any more Loki stories in the future, but it does sound like his adventures with the TVA are coming to an end.
Martin doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of a third season, but he emphasizes that the current story arc has a definite ending. This doesn’t mean the characters won’t return, but it does mean that the story we’re following right now is coming to a close. And that’s actually more comforting than discouraging.
If Loki does end after Season 2, it’s comforting to know that the writers had a plan in mind. It’s always better to have a clear exit strategy, even if it leaves the door open for future stories, than to continue without a direction or purpose. And as any Marvel Cinematic Universe fan knows, just because a series ends doesn’t mean that the character won’t be seen again.
At the same time, if Tom Hiddleston’s streaming series remains popular with viewers, the unknown potential for the future is just as exciting. After all, no one expected Loki to turn out the way it did, and it was a pleasant surprise for anyone who was invested in Thor’s breakout villain.
I’m as big a fan of Loki as anyone else, and I want it to continue. I’ve had so much fun learning about how the TVA works and how to time slip. It’s been a treat to have a Marvel Studios project that’s so perfectly aligned with my interests.
When might the third season of Loki come out?
We might have to wait more than two years for Loki’s second season to premiere on television, should the program decide to be renewed.
Given that Hollywood has been running at a reduced capacity for the majority of the year as a result of strike action by both the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and Writers Guild of America (WGA), it may even be longer.
Therefore, if Loki does carry on, season 3 wouldn’t likely debut until late 2026 at the latest.
Who might appear in the cast of Loki season three?
Tom Hiddleston would undoubtedly need to reprise his iconic title role if Loki were to return for a third season.
Less is known about the supporting cast, but we wouldn’t be shocked to see more of Owen Wilson’s Agent Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15, and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie.
What might happen in the third season of Loki?
The main character of Loki season 2 was primarily concerned with his race to comprehend new adversary Kang and his incarnations, including Victor Timely, who are all portrayed by Jonathan Majors, an actor who is currently the subject of controversy.
Uncertainty has been expressed regarding the continuation of the plot involving his time-traveling Marvel villain; however, what would happen to Loki season 3 if it were to be abandoned?
Since Loki has been instrumental in creating this new character for the MCU, a sudden reversal of direction could do away with the necessity for a third season, or at the very least significantly change what it would entail.
Future Loki seasons may explore different themes depending on other franchise entries. For example, Deadpool 3, which is highly anticipated, is rumored to play with multiverse concepts, though this is currently unconfirmed.
We’ll just have to wait and see what Marvel has in store, as is usually the case with them.
