Sources close to the production of the upcoming MCU series Echo have confirmed that the series will consist of five episodes, rather than the originally planned six. Each episode is expected to be approximately an hour long.
Echo Got Five Episodes
The reason for the episode cut is reportedly due to pacing issues. The show’s writers and producers reportedly felt that the original six-episode structure was too slow and that the story could be told more effectively in five episodes.
This is the first time that an MCU series has been cut down from its original episode count. All previous MCU series have been released with six episodes.
It is unclear which episode was cut from the series. However, it is possible that the episode was cut due to its focus on Kingpin’s backstory. It was recently reported that the Echo series will set the stage for the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, which will star Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin. It is possible that the episode that was cut from Echo was focused on Kingpin’s backstory and that the show’s writers and producers felt that it was not necessary to include the episode in order to set up the Daredevil: Born Again series.
Despite the episode cut, Echo is still expected to be a major event in the MCU. The series will follow Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), a deaf Native American martial artist who has the ability to perfectly copy any fighting style she sees. The series will explore Maya’s origins and her struggles to come to terms with the death of her father.
And based on the trailer, it looks like Echo is going to be a much darker and more mature MCU series than what we’re used to. The tone is reminiscent of cable dramas like Daredevil, Breaking Bad, and John Wick. There’s a lot of violence, gore, and profanity on display. And the characters look like they’re going to be complex and morally ambiguous.
Echo is expected to premiere on Disney+ and Hulu in January 2024.
