In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Vaughn said that he would love to reboot the franchise with new versions of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and the rest of the iconic characters.

“I’ve been arguing we’ve all done it with Spider-Man pretty well. Bond. I think Star Wars is the Skywalker family. So if I was allowed to do the Skywalker story, then I’d love to do Star Wars,” Vaughn said.

Vaughn noted that characters like James Bond and various superheroes are often rebooted with new actors, so he doesn’t see why the Star Wars characters should be any different.

“‘Star Wars’ is the Skywalker family and that’s where I think they’ve gone wrong. They’ve forgot. They’ve done brilliantly in TV but it needs an epic new film. That’s what I would do [i.e. reboot Luke],” he said.

Vaughn acknowledges that his idea to reboot the Skywalker saga would likely cause a stir among fans, but he says that he’s up for the challenge.

“Everyone is going to go batshit crazy but let’s bring it on. If you want a new generation, make the movie for them. The old generation, hopefully you make it well enough that they enjoy it,” he said.

Whether or not Disney is interested in rebooting the Skywalker saga is unclear, but Matthew Vaughn’s idea is certainly intriguing. It would be interesting to see how a new generation of filmmakers would approach the classic story.

My Personal Opinion

I think Matthew Vaughn idea to reboot the Skywalker saga is a bold one, but I’m not sure how well it would be received by fans. The Star Wars films are beloved by many people, and any changes to the core story and characters would likely be met with resistance.

However, I can also see the appeal of rebooting the franchise. The Star Wars universe is so vast and rich, and there are endless possibilities for new stories and characters. A reboot could be a way to introduce the franchise to a new generation of fans, while also honoring the legacy of the original films.

Ultimately, whether or not a reboot of the Skywalker saga is a good idea is up to Disney. But I’m curious to see what fans think. Would you be interested in seeing a new take on the classic story?
