Concept art from Spider-Man: No Way Home has revealed that there were plans for the titular web-slinger and Doctor Strange to team up in scenes from the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb Spider-Man films.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
The artwork, which was shared by concept artist Andrew Reeder, shows Spider-Man and Doctor Strange fighting side-by-side against Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro. One piece of art even shows Spider-Man and Doctor Strange swinging through the air together, reminiscent of the iconic scene from the Raimi films where Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson do the same.

While these scenes never made it into the final cut of No Way Home, they’re still a lot of fun to see. It’s interesting to imagine what it would have been like to see Spider-Man and Doctor Strange team up against the villains from the Raimi and TASM films.

It’s also worth noting that the concept art confirms that there were plans for Sandman to have a larger role in No Way Home. In the final film, Sandman only appears in a brief flashback scene. However, the concept art shows him fighting Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in several scenes.

It’s unclear why these scenes were scrapped, but it’s possible that they were simply too expensive or time-consuming to film. It’s also possible that the filmmakers decided that they didn’t want to overcrowd the film with too many characters.
Whatever the reason, it’s still a lot of fun to see these concept art images and imagine what could have been.
