Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania VFX Artists Squeezed by Early Release Date

When the release date for Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was moved up from July to February 2023, VFX artists working on the film were squeezed even further. Many had to work 14-hour days, seven days a week, with no overtime.

This is not the first time that VFX artists have been overworked on Marvel projects. In fact, it has become a common occurrence. In a recent report by Vulture, several VFX artists who have worked on Marvel films allege that the studio is “squeezing blood out of stones” and that they are “out of blood.”

One of the reasons why VFX artists are so overworked on Marvel projects is because the studio is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible with visual effects. Marvel films are known for their stunning visuals, and the studio is always looking for ways to improve. However, this comes at a cost.

VFX artists are often working on multiple projects at the same time, and they are often given unrealistic deadlines. This can lead to burnout and poor quality work.

In the case of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the early release date put even more pressure on VFX artists. The studio had to scramble to finish the film on time, and this led to long hours and unpaid overtime.

Many VFX artists are frustrated with this situation. They feel that they are not being respected by Marvel Studios, and that their work is not being valued.

One VFX artist who spoke to Vulture said, “I’m tired of being treated like a machine. I’m not a robot. I’m a human being with a life outside of work.”

Another VFX artist said, “I’m worried about the future of the VFX industry. If Marvel Studios keeps squeezing us like this, there will be no one left to work on their films.”

Marvel Studios has not responded to the allegations from VFX artists. However, the company has said that it is committed to providing a healthy work environment for its employees.

It remains to be seen whether Marvel Studios will make any changes to its VFX workflow. However, it is clear that something needs to be done to address the concerns of VFX artists.
