Nicolas Cage’s Big Spider Scene in ‘The Flash’ Was a Surprise to Him Too


Nicolas Cage‘s cameo in the upcoming DCEU film The Flash has been one of the most talked-about aspects of the film since it was first announced. And for good reason! Cage was originally cast to play Superman in Tim Burton’s canceled Superman Lives film in the 1990s, so his appearance in The Flash is a bit of a meta-joke for fans of the character.

In a recent interview, Cage revealed that he was only on set for The Flash for “maybe 3 hours,” and that he didn’t even know about the giant spider scene until he saw the finished film.

“It was CGI so they could de-age me & I’m fighting a spider. I didn’t do any of that, so I don’t know what happened there,” Cage said.

It sounds like Cage’s cameo was filmed separately from the rest of the film, and that the spider scene was added in post-production. This is likely because the scene is a reference to a scrapped scene from Superman Lives in which Superman was supposed to fight a giant spider.
