The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has issued new guidelines for its members during the ongoing actors strike, including restrictions on Halloween costumes.

According to the guidelines, SAG-AFTRA members should refrain from dressing up as IP characters from productions that are currently struck. This includes characters from popular movies, TV shows, and video games like Marvel superheroes, Barbie, and Wednesday Addams.
Instead, members are encouraged to “dress up as characters from non-struck content, like an animated TV show.”
The new guidelines have been widely mocked online, with some people joking that they are too restrictive. For example, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds joked on Twitter that he looks forward to “screaming ‘scab’ at my 8 year old all night” because she is dressed up as a Marvel superhero.

Others have pointed out that the guidelines may be difficult to enforce, as it can be hard to tell whether a particular costume is inspired by a struck production. For example, a person dressed up as a ghost or a witch could be inspired by any number of different works of fiction.
